We form the Past Continuous with the past tense of the verb to be and the verb in its present participle form + V ing was were + + I was working We were working He,she was working You were working It They were working III III I was not working We were not working He, she was not working You were not working It They were not working Was I working ? Were we working ? Was he,she working ? Were you working ? it Were they working? - ?

We use the Past Continuous to describe an action that was in progress at some point in the past He was having breakfast at 9 o`clock yesterday. They were skiing from 10 till 12 yesterday morning.

We can also use the past continuous to describe two actions that were in progress at the same time He was reading the newspaper in a café while his daughter with her boyfriend were passing by.

Very often, the past continuous and the past simple are used together. The past continuous is used to describe an activity in progress and the past simple describes an action that interrupts this activity.
