It is not known who was the first to make out this wonderful place near the confluence of two full-flowing rivers: the Biya and the Katun. the Katun the Biya

But it was precisely Peter Ι who signed an edict about the building of a fortress for the defending of southern border-lines of the Russian empire. Later a populated area developed around the fortress.

In our town there is a central library named after V.M.Shukshin. The library has been reconstructed. This year we'll celebrate the 80th anniversary of Shukshin. As we know it was the library which took the lead in organizing the first shukshin's meetings. There will be a museum named after Shukshin in the library. And for our countryman a famous writer, actor and director V. M. Shukshin Biysk was a good start in life and creative work, his cognition of a new big complicated world began here. V. M. Shukshin

In 2005 Biysk received a town of science status. We are proud of our scientists, educational establishments, industrial enterprises. They go on with their investigations in science and technology and also in such branches as military and special technology, new materials and chemical technologies, the technology of living systems, industrial technologies and many others.

In Western Siberia there is a region In that region there is a river. On that river there is a town. And this town is our native Biysk.
