The land of the long white cloud.
Geographical position. New Zealand is a country of islands located in the Pacific Ocean. The North Island and the South Island are the main ones, and there are number of small ones, some of which are hundreds of kilometers from the main islands.
Opening of New Zealand. When the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman came to New Zealand in 1642, Maori (Maori settled in New Zealand about a thousand years ago) warriors fought off his sailors and he was unable to land!
Aotearoa - Zeeland New Zealand nas another name, Aotearoa. It was Abel Tasman who gave the country its present name. Zeeland means Sea Land in Dutch. But the Dutch never settled there. In 1769, the English explorer James Cook claimed New Zealand for Britain.
Politics of New Zealand. New Zeland is the unitary state, based on principles of the limited monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Principle of the Westminster model of parlamentarizma is fixed in basis of the system of the political system. New Zeland jointly with Tokelau, Antarctic territory of Rossa and freely associated states of Island of Kuka and Niue is made Kingdom of New Zeland.

Milford Sound. In the south-west of the South Island, where land and sea meet, is one of the most beautiful places in the world – Milford Sound. This a place of breath- taking views, hundreds of waterfalls and fairy-tale wildlife. It`s also a place where seals, dolphins and penguins are frequent guests. Milford Sound is the wettest place in New Zealand – and one of the wettest places in the world.

Nature. New Zealand is a land of volcanoes. The largest and most active volcano is the White Island. The White Island volcano last erupted – without warning – in The acid-filled lake you see in the picture is now boiling away at 55C. In spite of the terrible smell the White Island is a popular tourist attraction.

Animals world. The kiwi is the country`s national bird and emblem. It has nostrils at the end of its beak and it can`t fly. New Zealanders also like to call themselves Kiwis.
Sport in New Zealand. Sport has a major role in New Zealand's culture, with the unofficial national sport of rugby union being particularly influential. Other popular participatory sports include cricket, bowls, netball, soccer, motorsport, golf, swimming and tennis.

Cinema of New Zealand. Although films have been made in New Zealand since the 1920s, it was only from the 1970s that New Zealand films began to be produced in significant numbers. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Jackson filmed The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in New Zealand, using mostly New Zealand crew and extras.
Music of New Zealand. The music and cuisine of New Zealand are similar to that of Australia, Canada, UK, and the US, although both have distinct New Zealand and Pacific qualities.
