The state natural reserve Bastak was formed in 1997 on territory of the Jewish autonomous region (ЕАО). It is located to the north from a of Birobidzhan up to administrative border ЕАО with the Khabarovsk rural area of Khabarovsk territory. The area of reserve is hectares. Along borders of reserve in 2002 and 2003 the security zone which makes hectares within the limits of the Jewish autonomous region.

Amur tiger Pantera tigris altaica (Temminck, 1844) one of the largest ground mammals of the Russian Far East, is brought in Red books МСОP the Russian Federation, the Jewish autonomous region, in Appendix I of Convention SITES, is under threat of disappearance and now we can see it in this reserve.

Ornitofauna of Reserve presents by 197 kinds of the birds living in variousof biotops. Among them the greatest interest represent: a black crane, a Far East stork, hohlatii osoed.

There are 3 directions of this recerve: - Protection of the reserve territories; -Scientific researches and monitoring; -Ecological and Educational activities.
