The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are the two oldest universities in Britain, and popular tourist destinations.

Both universities are just a name for two large groups of colleges situated in the cities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Oxford is about forty years older than Cambridge. There is no exact foundation date, but the university is believed to have been founded around 1167.

Cambridge was founded around 1209 by Oxford scholars after a bitter disagreement with local townsmen.

Oxford is uniquely beautiful.

Its ancient buildings of honey-coloured stone are world-famous.

On 12 March 1829 Cambridge sent a challenge to Oxford, and the tradition was born, and has continued to the present day.
