St. Nicholas Monastery Radovitsky
Legend According to legend, the first inhabitants of the monastery of Pachomius was an old man, who in the XV century, found in a deserted moor Meshcherskys Lake High Island. The beauty and silence of the place shocked the Greek monk, he founded the desert and called it Akakievoy, in honor of his spiritual mentor.
Tradition also says that here, in the second half of the XVI century monk Jonah, was revealed to the image of St. Nicholas in the full-length, cut from a piece of apple tree. Apparently, at the same time on the island in the middle of the lake, called the Holy Ghost, was erected a wooden church of St. Nicholas (not preserved).
Only in the XVI century with the miraculous image was witnessed by 250 fertile signs. The news of the miracles went all over Russia and reached Peter I who removed the icon to the Synod, and brought it to Moscow, "for fear of superstition among the people." After the death of the Emperor icon was returned to the monastery and carried all the way to the hands, accompanied by the people and clergy with lighted candles.
In the XVIII century, the monastery has grown considerably and the lack of space on the island was transferred to a nearby beach, where they constructed stone rectory, and fraternal cells, temples and outbuildings.
After the Bolshevik Revolution the monastery was closed. Before our time preserved two-story portion of the monastic cells, a crumbling temple of the Nativity of the Blessed. Virgin and the acting well in the center of the monastery grounds.
Now people can also go to a deserted island in the middle of the Lake St. (now it is actually a peninsula) and visit the place where the monastery of Pachomius, and later - the church with the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas was built
